The best way to explore the fascinating history of North Tyneside is on foot with a number of walks available to download.

Blue Plaque walk

A circular walk around Tynemouth and North Shields taking in many of the Blue Plaques providing a fascinating insight into the rich history of North Tyneside. A snapshot maybe, but what better way to uncover a little of the history of the coastal village of Tynemouth and its seafaring neighbour North Shields.

Coastal walk

A walk from St Mary's Island, following the naturally stunning coastline through Whitley Bay and Cullercoats to Tynemouth Priory and Castle and finishing on the historic North Shields Fish Quay.

This walk along the coast will give you a flavour of everything you could wish for from a trip to the sea; birds, flowers, history, art, literature, architecture, modern culture and, for those with a yearning for the traditional seaside day out, there may even be some candyfloss along the way.

Cullercoats Art Trail

A journey back in time around Cullercoats through the eyes of famous artists. The seafront landscape may have changed over the course of time but the desire to paint, sketch and draw Cullercoats remains very much alive. Modern day contemporary artists draw inspiration from the stunning coastal scenery of today and the works of their predecessors from yesteryear.

Royal Quays Art walk

Robert Westall walk
