Food & Drink
Wherever you are in the borough you'll find something for you but of course there are way too many places to mention here!
Here are some suggestions:
For a coffee and cake check out Mr Woods on the corner of Front Street opposite Tynemouth Priory and Castle or Dil and the Bear. Still in Front Street, for tapas and wine look no further than Lui's and Allards. Barca Art Cafe and Lola Jeans attract a younger crowd and have a reputation for quality. Gibraltar Rock = carvery, and there's top quality fish and chips at Marshalls and Longsands Fish Kitchen.
Tynemouth Station has Porters - a cafe with occasional live music - and Davanti Classico for good value traditional and modern Italian favourites.
King Edward's Bay features one of the most talked-about restaurants in the UK - Riley's Fish Shack.
If down on Longsands Beach, Crusoe's is the place to be. The View (or Crusoe's 2!) can be found at the north end of the beach. On Grand Parade above the beach look out for the Clock Tower Cafe, Surf Cafe and Grand Hotel.
Beaches and Cream, Salt House and Mama Rosa's in Cullercoats are popular local haunts.
North Shields Fish Quay has a good selection of places to grab something to eat and is always busy...a good sign! The Staith House, Irvin's Brasserie and The River Cafe set a high standard. Follow the crowd to the Italian eateries or take your pick of fish and chip restaurants.
New kids on the block Hinnies, Turknaz and Elder and Wolf are the talk of the town in Whitley Bay. Established crowd-pullers include Relish, Shikari, Davanti and Omni, scoring well with reviewers.
Everything we talk about here are simply suggestions and not recommendations. There are many, many more and its impossible to talk about them all. Ask around, check online and send us your feedback.
