The seaside town of Whitley Bay provides the perfect family outing with arcades, a skate park, mini golf, as well as award-winning ice cream and fish and chips. Its golden sands are perfect for sandcastle building and long walks. An outdoor play and water park is close by and ideal for keeping children entertained. Playhouse Whitley Bay has a varied programme of shows and productions with something for everyone. St Mary’s Lighthouse is one the borough’s main attractions, having stood as a beacon along the coastline since 1898. It features a nature reserve and wetland habitat ideal for rockpooling and often seals can be spotted lying on the rocks. The Lighthouse also marks the finish line of the popular North Tyneside 10k Road Race. The famous Spanish City Dome is currently undergoing major regeneration and is due to open this summer. Overlooking the sea is a wonderful plaza and events space. Each year, the town hosts the North Tyneside Firework Display attracting tens of thousands of people, as well as a classic car show on the Links, carnival and a food and drink festival on the Spanish City Plaza.
